Introduction of Artwork

https://smarthistory.org/asia/china/tang-dynasty/ This piece of artwork is named "Attributed to Zhou Fang", and was created in early China sometime between 618 and 907 C.E. Their hair is neatly put together, their faces are beautiful and blemish free, and they are wearing expensive dresses. I can personally connect to this piece because I and a lot of other women live in a world where there is a stigma that we should "act like ladies". It is clear that this expectation has been around for ages, and it makes me wonder when and how exactly did it start?
