Introduction of Artwork
This piece of artwork is named "Attributed to Zhou Fang", and was created in early China sometime between 618 and 907 C.E. This particular artwork stood out to me because even as early as 618, women are portrayed to be beautiful, elegant, and classy. Their hair is neatly put together, their faces are beautiful and blemish free, and they are wearing expensive dresses. I can personally connect to this piece because I and a lot of other women live in a world where there is a stigma that we should "act like ladies". It is clear that this expectation has been around for ages, and it makes me wonder when and how exactly did it start?
Well put! It's always interesting to look at very old art and think about what went on during those times. I very much agree that the stigma on every woman looking super spruced up all the time is worn out, it symbolizes an old time and it needs to change. Thankfully in a lot of places (at least some places I've seen) have been changing and I'm super excited to see where it goes in the future!
ReplyDeleteAmanda!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with where you are coming from. I never thought about where being "lady like" originated. It is a beautiful piece of art, it portrays their culture so well. I have never researched this type of artwork before, this blog post was very inspiring to research more!
